FLATIRON LUXURY LOFT RESIDENCES

This mixed-use, luxury residential-and-retail project, which rises mid-block between Sixth and Seventh Avenues in New York’s Flatiron District, evokes the warmth and clean lines of Isamu Nagouchi’s 1950s Akari light sculptures. It juxtaposes a two-story retail base and duplex condominium apartments above, both sheathed in bronze-toned glass, with one-level condo units that each have a terrace and a recessed clear-glass wall. By alternating the double-height apartments with those of a single story, a series of lantern-like illuminated stacked cubes emerges. Inside, the loft-like apartments’ clean, open plans allow for easy flow from front to back, with a large, double-height space in each duplex facing the street. Residents share a ground-level garden and a rooftop terrace.
